Bidvertiser Network Publishers Flagged as Attack Sites
Portland, Oregon, 5/27/2010 – STD Carriers Disease Control and Prevention Services is just one of an unknown number of websites that have been affected by malicious software downloading content to people’s computers through the Bidvertiser Publisher Network. All day long reports have been popping up on Google of unsuspecting publishers finding out that Google has flagged their websites as reported attack sites. STD Carriers has been in contact with Bivertiser and has its own theory about the problem.
Bivertiser is an internet advertising service similar to Google Adsense. Websites approved for their network place Bidvertiser code on pages and Bidvertiser handles the rest. Advertisers then bid on the space and pay per click or per sale. When contacted about the problem a man with a foreign accent told STD Carriers that he really had no idea what was going on and that people have been calling in with the same problem.
In April Bidvertiser began running pop-under ads that were automatically added to publisher accounts. STD Carriers owns several other websites that have not experienced this problem. These other sites were not running Bidvertiser pop-under ads. STD Carriers has removed all Bidvertiser code from its website and is awaiting the results of a Google malware review.
