People Arrested for HIV/AIDS Exposure and Transmission Crimes

These people have been arrested and charged with crimes involving criminal transmission of HIV and AIDS. Criminal HIV transmission commonly refers to crimes in which a person knowingly exposes another to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in such a way that the victim was at risk of contracting an infection. Most cases of criminal HIV transmission can be broken down it three categories.

Sexual Assault

Crimes that in most cases require convicts to serve a prison term before having to register as a sex offender for the rest of their lives whether or not they are HIV positive. These crimes include rape, statutory rape, and other sex crimes that are made worse when the perpetrator happens to be HIV positive. In some cases knowingly exposing someone to HIV without disclosing your HIV status constitutes sexual assault whether or not the victim consented to the act in the first place due to the fact that if properly informed the victim (in most cases) would not have consented to the act.

Prostitution

Not always the victimless crime it appears to be due to the fact that many prostitutes have HIV/AIDS (and other STDs) and don’t tell their customers because they fear losing business. This is not surprising since most hookers are in business to feed crystal meth, crack cocaine, heroin, and other drug habits that they consider to be far more important than their own health let alone anyone else’s.

Spitting and Biting

The least severe type of criminal HIV transmission due to the fact that the likelihood of infecting someone through saliva is extremely small. Most spiting and biting cases involve fights in which a HIV positive (usually intoxicated) person recklessly bites an opponent. In most cases the victim does not get infected and whether or not the perpetrator intended to infect the other cannot be established. Due to gray areas in the law many people are charged with felony assault charges with HIV as a deadly weapon and are sentenced without taking into account the HIV status of the victim.

Summary

Many people charged with criminal HIV transmission crimes are predatory sex offenders and drug addicted prostitutes while others seem to be normal mostly law abiding people that just happened to make a horrible mistake. Hopefully this list will at the very least help HIV positive people remember to use common sense by not spitting on or biting people, remind the rest of us that if you must buy companionship to still have standards, and keep the rightfully registered properly segregated.
