Nicknamed "Sugar Bear" by his teammates during his 1979-83 stint with the New York Giants Roy Franklin Simmons was diagnosed with HIV in 1997 after he began to suffer from unexplained health problems.
Other: Following his career with the Giants Sugar Bear played for the Washington Redskins from 1983-85 and played in their 27-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XVII.
