While on tour with his band ZZ Top in 2000 Dusty Hill sought medical treatment for sever fatigue and was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. The ZZ Top World Tour was canceled so he could receive treatment for the disease.

He voiced his animated self an episode of "King of the Hill" called "Hank Gets Dusted" (season 11 episode 5) in which he plays Hank Hill's cousin who is awarded Cotton Hill's Cadillac much to Hanks jealousy. He then puts Hank on a hidden camera show designed to showcase the comedy of Hank's anger.
