Cary Kenneth Dorsey failed to use protection when he exposed an innocent St. Paul Police Canine Officer to his HIV infected blood. Fortunately for the officer, dogs are immune to the HIV virus that only infects primates. This did not prevent the arresting officer's owner from undergoing a regiment of anti-HIV drugs due to fear that he may have been exposed to the virus.
This all could have been avoided if Mr. Dorsey had the forethought to wear proper body armor and arm himself accordingly to repel any resistance to his activity.
Dorsey was sentenced to 15 months in prison for the burglary that initiated the HIV scare and no charges related to criminal HIV transmission were filed against him. Still his photo was plastered all over the local news in such a way that our awareness of his story was the result of a routine Google search for HIV arrests.
We are not sure what may have scared the arresting officer's owner into thinking that his dog's exposure might put him at risk of a sexually transmitted disease (STD) and will not speculate as to the nature of kennel activities at the St. Paul Police Department.
