Blues singer Curtis Salgado made headline in 2005 when he had to undergo a liver transplant to repair damage done by Hepatitis C. The exact date when he was infected is not known.
Salgado was credited by his friend the late John Belushi as being his inspiration for creating The Blues Brothers. Salgado and Belushi met in Eugene, Oregon during the filming of Animal House.
