The type of agent is important because it determines if the infection is or is not curable. Bacterial agents such as Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia can be cured with antibiotics while viral agents such as Genital Herpes (HSV2), Hepatitis C, HPV, Genital Warts, and HIV/AIDS are not curable, but treatable.
