STD Testing Information
Do you think that you might have an STD? Did someone report you as having a STD
that you don’t think you have? Getting tested for STDs is always a good thing to
do. Whether it be to disprove a rumor, get to the bottom of a suspicious growth,
or out of genuine courtesy for your partner, getting tested will help you know the
truth about your body, spread that truth to others, and fight the worst case scenario
with proper medical care.
HIV/AIDS Testing
HIV and AIDS can be diagnosed with a simple blood test. If the test detects antibodies
to HIV it means that your body has been infected and is fighting the infection.
HIV antibodies can typically be detected 2 to 6 months after the initial infection.
Genital Herpes Testing
HSV2 can be diagnosed with a simple blood test. If the blood test detects antibodies
to HSV2 it means that your body has been infected and is fighting the infection.
The incubation period for HSV2 can be as little as 7 to 10 days and as long as 1
to 3 months or longer.
Hepatitis C Testing
HCV can be detected with a simple blood test. If you test positive for antibodies
then you have HCV. HCV can be detected as little as 2 weeks after the initial infection.
HPV Testing
There is no blood test for HPV. HPV is typically detected by swabbing a suspicious
area and testing it for the virus. Women are usually diagnosed after a viral test
of the cervix and for men suspected anal cancer.
Genital Warts Testing
As a form of HPV Genital Warts has no blood test, but it is an easier form of HPV
to detect. Besides the obvious symptoms of warts in the genital area it is common
for small Genital Warts invisible to the human eye or in hard to find places to
be diagnosed by applying acetic acid to the suspected area. If Genital Warts are
present the acetic acid will change their color to a bright white.
