This Olympic Gold Medal winning diver was diagnosed shortly before the 1988 Olympic Games. In 1994 he announced he was a homosexual and then released a book called "Breaking the Surface" in 1995 where he divulged his HIV status.

His HIV announcement was a cause of concern for other Olympic divers who shared the pool with him at the Seoul Games because of a diving blooper in which he cracked his head open on the board and bled into the pool. Fortunately blood in a pool gets diluted to the point where it poses no risk to other swimmers.
