Best known for his public trial and prison sentence in 1998 for helping terminally ill patients kill themselves this aging medical doctor has been struggling with the Hepatitis C that he contracted during his service in the Vietnam War.

Kevorkian first earned the nickname Dr. Death in 1956 after he conducted a study photographing patients eyes as they died. He concluded that death row patients be euthanized and their organs harvested.

In 1960 he advocated for the use of condemned prisoners in medical experiments.
