James Darrell Williams was arrested for donating plasma without telling the clinic that he is HIV positive. He said he did it for the money. He was paid $30 for his plasma by BioLife. He was charged with one count of transferring contaminated bodily fluids and two counts of attempting to transfer contaminated bodily fluids. The last two were because he had tried to give plasma twice before but was rejected for high blood pressure.
One of the questions on the form people fill out at BioLife asks if they have ever tested positive for HIV. Williams knowingly provided a false answer every time he filled it out. It is possible for someone to have accidentally answered incorrectly, but probably not three times in a row.
I don't know how likely that HIV infected plasma was to actually infect anyone. They test the donated plasma so unless they screw that up he probably wouldn't have hurt anyone. He probably figured that by the time they figured out it was contaminated that he would be long gone with $30.
