Former elementary school teacher and convicted sex offender Joel Bedenbaugh of Camden, South Carolina was convicted on 11/12/2009 of failing to disclose his HIV status to his ex-wife during their marriage. According to his ex-wife he told her that his HIV medicine was for a blood condition called thrombocytopenia. He was sentenced to 6 years in state prison.
His HIV status was discovered during a police investigation that resulted in the child molestation charges he is currently facing. Bedenbaugh is accused of molesting a girl less than 11 years old.
Bedenbaugh was convicted in 2006 of having inappropriate sexual contact with a 13 year old girl. He a former employee of the Warren Road Elementary in west Augusta, Georgia and the St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic School in Aiken, South Carolina.
